For years, law enforcement officials have tried to warn Rutherford about serious threats to public safety including a sharp rise in crime, a dangerous staff shortage at the Sheriff’s Department and a problem with recruiting and retaining skilled law enforcement personnel.
THE RUTHERFORD WAY
In one of her first moves as County Supervisor, Rutherford voted NOT to fill 44 law enforcement positions – personnel who are vital to the safety and security of our families, homes and businesses.
In the past two years alone, officials with the organization that represents the men and women of law enforcement, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Employee Benefit Association, have requested to meet with Rutherford about their concerns several times. Her response? REFUSE to meet, IGNORE the request or CANCEL the meeting.
On Rutherford’s watch, neighborhoods in San Bernardino County’s 2nd District saw an increase in property
crime and an alarming spike in violent crime including murder, robbery and rape in 2017 - a dangerous and disturbing trend that she has chosen to ignore.
Rutherford’s actions speak for themselves – she DOES NOT VALUE the brave men and women who proudly protect our homes, businesses and families. The citizens of San Bernardino County’s 2nd District can’t afford to wait for Janice Rutherford to realize the safety and security of our families should be her first priority.
